How to set up My Disney Experience for Walt Disney World

Table of Contents

What is My Disney Experience

In 2013 Walt Disney World started testing a new program called My Magic Plus. My Magic Plus is a way for guests to customize and get the most out of their Walt Disney World Vacation.

My Disney Experience is the command center for My Magic Plus.  Here you can make and keep track of your vacation plans.

What can I do with My Disney Experience

My Disney Experience is the easiest way to make Advanced Dining Reservations and book Fastpasses. It is also how you can view and download the photos Disney makes of you at the park (ride photos, character photos and scenic photos.)

If you use the My Disney Experience App on your smart phone you can order food at some your favorite Walt Disney World quick service restaurants (for more info on mobile ordering click here.)

Setting Up My Disney Experience

The initial set up for My Disney Experience is pretty simple. The first thing you need to do is have an account registered with Walt Disney World. You may even be registered with Walt Disney World and do not know it. Disney links accounts through many of its brands including the Walt Disney World, Disneyland, the Disney Store and even ESPN. If you have an account with one of these your log in information should work for all of them.

If you do not already have an account with Disney go to the official  Walt Disney World site and register. This will also create your My Disney Experience Account.

Then hit the My Disney Experience button at the top right of the page. Note: even if you are already logged into the Walt Disney World site you may be prompted to log in again for My Disney Experience.

Linking resort hotel reservations

(Note: These instructions are for linking using the computer based system not the app.)

Now that your initial set up is done you can begin to make your plans. Did you book your vacation on the Disney website while logged into My Disney Experience? It should be there already. (If not do not worry you can fix it easily.)

If you were not logged in or booked it over the phone(or it just did not show up) mouse over where it says My Disney Experience and a drop down menu opens up. Click on my reservations and tickets.

Then the Link Resort Reservations button.

Fill in your confirmation number and last name of the primary guest (usually the first person listed on the reservation) and you should be all set.

Using My Disney Experience

Linking Tickets

(Note: These instructions are for linking using the computer based system not the app.)

If you purchased tickets instead of a package or have old unused tickets laying around you need to link them to My Disney Experience.

Go to the Walt Disney World page and make sure you are logged in. Mouse over the My Disney Experience (do not click it) and scroll down to My Reservations and Tickets. Click there.

When the page loads scroll down to the button that says link tickets. Enter your ticket number. If you have multiple people connected to your My Disney Experience account you will be prompted to assign it to someone. It is very important you assign it to the right person.

If you have tickets issued before 2010 (such as the non-expiration tickets Disney used to offer) you will need to call (407) 939-4357.

If you have a ticket only purchase you will not be able to make Fastpass selections until you have linked your tickets!

Linking Advanced Dining Reservations

(Note: These instructions are for linking using the computer based system not the app.)

Need to add an Advanced Dining Reservation to  your account? Go to the Walt Disney World page and make sure you are logged in. Mouse over the My Disney Experience (do not click it) and scroll down to My Reservations and Tickets. Click there.

Scroll down to where it says Link Dining Reservations and click. If you have a resort vacation package and have not linked it you will need to link that first. Just click the resort reservation or vacation package button and follow the instructions. If you do not (or have linked it already) enter your confirmation number and the last name of the party it is booked under.

Adding Friends and Family with My Disney Experience

(Note: These instructions are for linking using the computer based system not the app.)

If everyone in your travel party is staying in the same room only one person needs My Disney Experience. It might be helpful, though, if at least all the adults have it. That way the adults can see and manage things like Fastpasses, dining reservations and pictures.

If your travel party has more than one room then you probably need at least two My Disney Experience accounts. If the two rooms want to do things together (like book the same Fastpasses), then they need to be linked.

Go to the Walt Disney World page and make sure you are logged in. Mouse over the My Disney Experience (do not click it) and scroll down to My Friends and Family list and click it.

Scroll down to where it says add a guest.  Then select how you would like to add a guest.

Add friends and family with My Disney Experience

Enter the appropriate information and your friend will be sent an email to confirm your request. When your friends confirms the request you will be able to plan together.

Ordering MagicBands

(Note: These instructions are for linking using the computer based system not the app.

If you have a resort hotel reservation at Walt Disney World you are entitled to free MagicBands. If your reservation is at least 30 days out you can customize your MagicBands. You can pick from a selection of colors and add your name to the back of the it.

But what are MagicBands? If My Disney Experience is how you control and plan your vacation Magic Bands are the keys to unlock them. You can scan your Magic Band to enter the parks, access the Fastpasses you have made, check in for the Advanced Dining Reservations you have, and more! So let’s get them set up.

Go to the Walt Disney World page and make sure you are logged in. Mouse over the My Disney Experience (do not click it) and scroll down to Magic Bands and Cards. Click it.

Customizing Magic Bands With My Disney Experience

From there you can select a color and name for each person staying in your room. You cannot customize MagicBands for people who are  not staying in your room.

If you do not customize your Magic Bands you will be mailed gray ones. If you booked your vacation with less than 30 days to go you will receive Magic Bands are the resort but you cannot customize them.

You can also purchase Magic Bands with some of your favorite characters from the Disney Store and select merchandise locations at Walt Disney World.

For more about MagicBands click here.

Adding a credit card to My Disney Experience

Magic Band let you access some cool features while you are at Walt Disney World. They let you access your Fastpasses, your Advanced Dining Reservations and even your hotel room.

They will also let you make purchases and charge them to your room but before you can do that you have to add a credit card to your account. Now when you make a purchase during your vacation your room will be charged (not the credit card on file it is just a guarantee.) If you want to use a different method of payment (including cash) you need to visit the resort concierge desk and make payment before midnight on the day you check out. Otherwise your credit card on My Disney Experience will be billed.

This time you need to go the main Walt Disney World page (not the My Disney Experience page!) Make sure you are logged in and then click on your name at the top of the page.

LInking a credit card to My Disney Experience

Scroll to the bottom and you will see an option to add payment method. Click there.

Now just enter your information just like you would for any other online payment. If you want to use your Magic Band to make purchases make sure you scroll all the way to the bottom and set up a pin code. Magic Bands do get lost sometimes and you don’t want someone else paying for their vacation with your money!

Accessing My Disney Experience

My Disney Experience can be accessed two ways. You can use your computer or you can download the app for your smart device.
