What are Advanced Dining Reservations at Walt Disney World

An Advanced Dining Reservation is just what it sounds like. You are committing to eating somewhere and Disney is committing to let you eat there. You will often see them referred to as ADRs on Disney pages and fan groups.

How do Advanced Dining Reservations work

Advanced Dining Reservations at Walt Disney World work a little different than you might be used to. You select a time for your reservation but that does not mean you will get a table at that time. It means you will get the next available table that will fit your party.

Unfortunately if there are other people with ADRs waiting for that table your name goes at the bottom of the list. Normally I plan on waiting 10-15 minutes but sometimes I have been seated almost exactly on time. I have heard horror stories of long waits past the assigned time but I take what I read with a grain of salt.

Why do I need them

There are a limited number of table service restaurants at Walt Disney World and a large number of people who want to eat at them. The days of walking up to your favorite and having a good shot at getting a table are over. It still happens but I would not count on it. If you really want to eat somewhere better try for an Advanced Dining Reservation.

Don’t believe me? Go here and try to find a table for today? You will see some but they may not be your first choice and it may not be at the time you want. Unless you are really luck you will not find the most popular ones, Cinderella’s Royal Table, Be Our Guest etc.

When can I make them

That depends on if you are staying at a Walt Disney World resort hotel. If you are not you you can make your reservations 180 days in advance.

If you are staying at a Walt Disney World resort hotel your booking window opens 180 days before check in but you can make them for the length of your stay (up to 10 days.) So technically you can make them up to 190 days in advance.

If you are making your reservations online through the website or the My Disney Experience app you can start at 6 a.m. Eastern Time. If you are going to call in the phone lines open at 7 a.m. Eastern Time.

Where can I make Advanced Dining Reservations

Advanced Dining Reservations are available at Table Service restaurants in the theme parks, the resort hotels and Disney Springs.

You can make reservation for breakfast, lunch and dinner at Be Our Guest even though breakfast and lunch are Quick Service. Dinner is Table Service and a Signature Dining Experience. Learn more here.

Pizzafari accepts Advanced Dining Reservations but for dinner only.  This restaurant is Quick Service for lunch and dinner but offers a family style meal at dinner (that still counts as Quick Service if you are using the Disney Dining Plan.) For more information click here.

Some meals at Walt Disney World do require prepayment. They Include Cinderella’s Royal Table, Hoop Dee Doo Revue, Spirit of Aloha Luau, and Mickey’s Backyard BBQ. You can use the Disney Dining Plan to pay for them. These reservations must be cancelled at least two days in advance to avoid being charged. (Terms subject to change. Carefully view them for yourself before you book.)

All other reservations require a valid credit card to hold your spot. There is a cancellation fee (between $10 and $25 dollars) if you do not cancel at least 24 hours in advance.
