Disney Dining Plan Changing In 2017

Disney Dining Plan Changing In 2017

The Disney Dining Plan can be a controversial subject. Some call it a great value but others call it a rip off. Many people dream of free dining when Disney offers it free as an incentive to book rooms. Whatever you may think of the Disney Dining Plan it is changing in 2017.

What is changing in the Disney Dining Plan

One thing that is changing is the price. This might come as a surprise to you but some of the prices actually seem to be going down. Only one is going up. The Quick Service Dining Plan is going up just over $2 per day to $46.34 per day.  The normal Disney Dining plan is actually going down but the decrease is less than $2. The new price will be $61.33. The Deluxe Dining plan is also cheaper. The new price is $103.57 per day. That saves over $10 per day.Talking Mickey Mouse at Walt Disney World

The biggest change is to Quick Service meals. Quick Service meals, no matter which dining plan you are using, no longer include a dessert. Guest using the Quick Service or the Disney Dining plan will get an extra snack per day instead. Guests using the Deluxe Dining plan get nothing extra. They just lose a dessert every time they use a credit for a Quick Service meal.

There is one more change to the  Disney Dining Plan.  The Premium Dining Plan is no longer offered at all.

Good Changes Or Bad

The answer to that question is purely subjective but since you asked here is my opinion. When it comes to the Quick Service or the Disney Dining Plan you lose one dessert per day but you gain one snack. The price change is fairly irrelevant.

I never ate the dessert with my meal. Sometimes I took it with me and I ate later. Sometimes it ended up in the trash. I can honestly say that none of the desserts offered ever made a memorable impression.

In 2017I can get a snack whenever I want instead of Disney telling me to eat dessert. Unlike the desserts there are some very good snacks available. Dole Whip, Le Fou’s Brew and even Starbucks coffee are among some of the better snacks on the Disney Dining Plan. Of course if you are on the Quick Service Dining plan you lose two desserts and only gain one snack. I still like it better this way.

When it comes to the Deluxe Dining Plan you lose a dessert every time you eat at a Quick Service location but you do not get any more snacks.  That is not good but if you are on the Deluxe plan you should be using your meal credits for Table service. If you are using your credits for Quick Service you should be on a different dining plan.  By the way, guests who book their vacation with me would know this because I take time to explain everything in detail. And I do not charge to do this. Want to know more? Click here.)
